HYPERPIGMENTATION
Pigmentation is skin discolouration that appears as blotchy, brownish marks on the face and body and increases how old we look. Pigmentation can be caused by sun damage, hormonal changes as a result of contraception or general ageing, all of which can result in the skin looking dull, patchy and older than we really are.
Intense Pulse Light (IPL) Pigmentation Correction works by applying rapid light pulses to the treatment area. The light is then absorbed and converted into heat energy which destroys the targeted area.
+ - How does IPL target discolouration
Intense pulsed light (IPL) emits a scattered ray of light from a high energy source. This works by focusing that intense light on the hair follicles, without damaging the skin in the treatment area. The melanin absorbs the light energy, converts it into heat which then breaks down the protein and the body removes it from the visual surface via the lymphatic system or extrudes it through the skin as a natural process (selective thermo-lysis).
+ - HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
10 - 30 minute treatment with minimum of 2-4 sessions scheduled 4 weeks apart depending on your treatment area, skin type and hair colour. This helps us coincide with the skin regrowth cycle and achieve the best results. Book in to consult with one of our physicians to discuss your treatment plan.
Usually a course of 2-4 treatments is required to achieve optimal result, but once you've completed your treatment cycle, you can look forward to a lifetime of smooth skin with only the occasional maintenance treatment, if required.
+ - What does it feel like? Is there any downtime?
Everybody has a different pain threshold. With our SuperluxPro Machine - we actively cool your skin at the same time so achieve the best results with the least amount of discomfort.
You will feel a hot sensation throughout the treatment but it is not painful. Your clinician will take care to ensure your experience is as comfortable as possible.
+ - When will i see changes?
You begin to feel tangible results right after the treatment.
The treated area may initially look raised and/or darker with a reddened perimeter.
The treated area will gradually turn darker over the next 24-48 hours. The treated area will progress to scabs/ crusting and will start to flake off in 2-3 days.
The treated area is usually healed in 7-10 days and will continue to fade over the next 2-4 weeks.
Apply SPF 50 + daily to sun exposed treated areas.
+ - Is it safe?
Most importantly at NovMed Aesthetics Studio our IPL and laser Machine is used by trained Doctors and Nurses only.
No procedure is entirely without risk, but the potential side effects of correctly used IPL treatments are minimal. They include minor redness and skin irritation or infection. For each patient we patch test treatment area to ensure your skin will tolerate the treatment during your first consult.
